Who reviews my content?
Our review team is a global network of professionals with significant experience in the creative sector. But besides being artists themselves, our reviewers are also thoroughly trained on Bigstock technical and metadata standards as well as compliance policies.

How is content reviewed?
You upload an image or group of images through the web browser or FTP. After the upload process is complete, our system will generate previews and assign image numbers to each file and send the files into your ‘Edit and Submit’ area where you will enter the metadata and select the type of content it is if other than for commercial use (editorial, vector/illustration). You will then ‘Submit’ the images when they will enter into the “image review queue”.

Our Image Review Team processes groups of images in the order that they have been submitted.

-They check for the technical quality of the image first by viewing every image at 100% magnification. If the technical quality of the image is poor, the image will be immediately Rejected. This includes factors like lighting, focus, and noise for photo. For illustrations factors such as gradient and blend rendering, as well as path construction are evaluated.

-Content is also evaluated for potential trademark or intellectual property violations, as well as possible copyright infringements and other types of compliance related issues.

-For acceptable content, they will then assess the commercial viability, check that the metadata (titles/descriptions, keywords, and categories) is appropriate for each image, review any model and property releases that are attached, and insure that the appropriate designation of ‘Editorial’ or ‘Illustration’ has been assigned if the image if necessary.

-Submissions are monitored for adherence to Bigstock content policies, like similar content and/or keyword spamming.

If there is an issue with any of these areas, your image will be Rejected with the specific reason(s). If these areas are acceptable and the technical quality is good, your image will be Approved!

Once the group of images has been reviewed, they will move through our system and go live on the site usually within hours. The time it takes will vary based on how many submissions we have received.

What about Review Accuracy?
Since all content is reviewed by individual reviewers, it is possible that different reviewers may have slightly different views about what is acceptable content. If you disagree with the result of a review based on technical execution, you can submit your content for another review. If you don’t understand the reason for a rejection, you can read more detailed explanations in our support center articles about rejection reasons.

How long does it take to review my submitted content?
Te submit and review process may take up to 24-72 hours based on how many other contributors have made image submissions. Please be patient. We are working hard to make sure that your content is reviewed in a fair and detailed manner.
You can check the review status of all images you have uploaded in the 'Approval Status' area under the 'Upload' section of your Bigstock account.
  • Images that have been SUBMITTED for review are labeled "Awaiting Approval".
Images that you have uploaded but NOT submitted are labeled “Pending Edit”.

All content is funneled into separate queues by media type, so review times may also vary by type of content. In certain cases a longer than usual review time indicates that your content was escalated to be reviewed by a manager. This does not mean there is anything wrong with your submission, but simply indicates that a reviewer requested a more authoritative judgment or answer before choosing to accept or reject a group of images.

How do I submit content that was previously reviewed?
Content cannot be replaced, so the download history and search engine ranking will not transfer, but you may resubmit content that was rejected (if you made the changes suggested by the reviewer), and content that was previously approved (if necessary changes had to be made)
To resubmit both rejected and previously approved content with corrections, first email Contributor Support with the image id number so we can delete the original, then upload & submit the new version of the image.
There is no obligation to contact us if you wish to resubmit unless you were instructed by us to do so.
Content that was approved but has since been deleted will need to be resubmitted and reviewed like any other new content.

How do I add a Note to the Reviewer?
We now have an area for you to write a "Note to the Reviewer". This optional field has a separate tab in the ‘Edit & Submit’ dialog box which can be used to pass along useful information in regards to the specific image, release, or credential attached. There is a 100 character limit in this area.
