Metadata Requirements For All Content

What Are The Character Limits for metadata?
How do I change the Descriptions, Keywords, or Categories of content that is already on the site?

Starting on Tuesday March 15th 2016, we are rolling out two changes that will affect the way contributors prepare images to submit that will save time!

Image Titles: Bigstock will no longer require contributors to include short titles for your uploaded photos, vectors, and illustrations.
*We will continue to require a full description/caption with a minimum of seven words and a 255-character maximum limit.

Sub-Categories: We also will be removing sub-categories! You will only need to select just two categories for each image.
We hope these changes make your submission process easier in addition to letting customers find your images faster.

What Are The Character Limits for metadata?
There are three areas in the 'Edit & Submit' dialog box allow a maximum of characters to be entered as metadata.

IMAGE DESCRIPTION: When entering the description for your image or illustration, please be aware that there is a 240 character limit restriction, which includes spaces and punctuation marks. This should be more than enough room to describe what is in the image, whether it is for commercial use or editorial use. (Note:Editorial images require a caption written in the Dateline Format. Please see our article for Creating Editorial Captions.

KEYWORDS: For each image, there must be no less than 7 and no more than 50 unique keywords that describe only what appears in the image or the main concept.

REVIEWER NOTE: We also now have an area for you to write a Note to the Reviewer. This optional field has a separate tab in the ‘Edit & Submit’ dialog box which can be used to pass along useful information in regards to the specific image, release, or credential attached. There is a 100 character limit in this area.

  • Go to the ‘View’ box and select ‘Approved Images’.
  • Locate the image you wish to modify and click the “edit” link.
  • Make modifications to image descriptions and keywords on the first page of the pop-up window.
  • To change the category click on the ‘Categories’ tab. Select the appropriate category from the drop-down menus.
  • You will also be required to provide a brief reason for the changes. It could be as simple as “Grammar/Punctuation correction” or “Adding more relevant keywords”. • Once you are finished with the image, click the ‘submit changes’ button.
